Weekdays at 9:30 and 11:30 AM buses loaded with youngsters from Staten Island or nearby Brooklyn arrive at Blue Heron Nature Center for environmental enrichment education. Community based part-time educators Caroline Cutronio (director), Lucille Bauer, and Mickey Caney bring students to the ponds and wet woodlands at Blue Heron, relating the natural world to specialized classroom lessons.
These programs reach about 15,000 students annually. Funded by Senator John J. Marchi, N.Y.C. Parks, Staten Island's Councilmembers and The NYC Environmental Fund, these free programs are booked for this school year. An outline of programs offered is available at the Nature Center's reception desk. Educators can be contacted at 967-5815.
