116 EAST 19TH STREET
Architect: unknown; alteration, Harris V. Hartman
c.1851; alteration, 1920-21

No. 116

The alteration of the facade of the brownstone rowhouse at 116 East 19th Street occurred during the period when such redesign projects were extremely common in the Gramercy Park area. The new facade is a simple brick design highlighed by iron balconies and a sloping roof that was probably originally clad in Spanish tile. At the time the new streetfront was constructed, the interior was converted for use as offices and residences.
